About Author

Hey! Thanks for dropping by.

My name is Cindy Doherty and I’m a twenty something Queens New Yorker, a former journalist, a NY Giants aficionado and a vivacious fun loving mother of a two year old.

Why did I start FT? In August of ’07 my husband Steve and I were blessed with a lovely baby girl Faith, and I quit my job as a journalist, which I enjoyed absolutely to take care of the little one. I never believed many of my friends when they delayed having a baby saying that they could not ‘afford one’. Afford a baby? It sounded strange to me, then. Within weeks of my baby’s arrival I realized that the little bundle of joy was going to cost a bundle. She still does.

Some times I crave for the singleton freedom coz being a full time mom can be tiring at times. I can’t wait for my little girl to grow up, so that I can get to spend time with myself more often. And recently I found a job and found a good nanny for Faith and I’m glad to be back working as I missed the mayhem in the office. :)

We are three of us with a seemingly never ending list of expenses and we were living on just my husband’s income until recently. The first few months of her birth were chaotic. We then charted a proper plan and tied up many loose ends to better manage our funds. Money was tight, but we’ve managed to stay afloat and managed to save a bit as well.

Most of what I share are the lessons and observations from my personal experience in managing my family’s finances. And like me, if you have just started a family or planning to start one soon, then you will be able to relate to a lot of things I write. By no means however are the topics I cover meant only for those with families. My hope is that for the most part, the topics I write about on FT should be universally useful to anyone trying to stay ahead of the personal finance curve.

So keep coming back to my blog. I love to write and also to be written back. So feel free to share your thoughts and views on my blog posts too.
